Gallery > Soil Samples

These soil samples are an ongoing project using scraps of clay that have collected at the bottom of buckets in the studio. The clay sediments settle at the bottom of the water-filled bucket, and are left alone while the water evaporates. Once bone-dry, the clay samples are gently released from the buckets, and fired to over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit.
Each sample has scraps from different types of clays, varying in color and texture, as well as pre-fired pieces that cause cracking as the new clay shrinks, making each sample unique.
